What Legal Action Can I Take Against Electricians?

Card image cap

I am having the electric updated in my 120 year old house, that still contains a lot of original features. When looking for Electricians, we went with a more expensive option, because we were promised legal requirements would be met, quality work and that our home would be handled with care. It was made clear that we (myself, bf, 2 roommates & 3 dogs) would be living in the house during the renovation and that workers were to clean up after themselves. We were quoted 4-6 weeks and the first Monday they came, they were supposed to put together an action plan. That first Monday, 6 guys rolled up, came in and just immediately started cutting open walls all over the house. No prep work, so there's dust EVERYWHERE. After a few days of this, they did throw some plastic over a few things in the living room, that were already covered in dust. Skipping over a bunch of details: SO MUCH of my stuff is ruined. My original hardwood floors are ruined. Almost every single item in my home has been covered in 120 year old plaster dust for 3 months. We are currently in week 13 of this project and lately I'm lucky if I get 2 guys showing up 3 days a week. I keep getting excuses as to why no one is showing up. Today, I had 2 new guys here, both about 20 years old. At 11:30am, supposedly one of the guys needed to be taken to the ER for high blood pressure. If it's true, I feel bad, but after everything else that they have been telling us, it's more likely that the guys quit in the middle of the day. I have 2 days before I am going to need to turn on my AC and I am not going to be able to do so because of all the dust.

I haven't even mentioned yet that the quality of the work is minimal. We keep saying we're gonna buy these guys a tape measure and a level because it doesn't look like they have them. This job took 5 years of savings and I just feel like everything that's happening is not right. They were cutting drywall with power tools INSIDE THE HOUSE. Also, at some point around Week 8, nobody showed up for like 2 weeks because they were waiting on a rough inspection from the city. I called the city and they told me that there was an issue with the business license, which needed to be resolved before permits could be approved. I said, "So the permits haven't been approved yet? So no work should have occurred yet?" Which was confirmed by a city clerk.

I just want to know if I have any options for reimbursement for all my ruined stuff?

Thanks in advance
