What Is The Process Of A Defamation Lawsuit

Tagged as personal injury because that’s the type of lawyer I was told to get. Throwaway account because I’m not ready to share with the people in my life. There’s no easy way to start this, so I’ll just go for it. So I(19f) was SA’d by a teenage boy (16) when I was 10. This was a repressed memory that didn’t catch up to me until I was 17, after a friend asked me about the night it happened (she didn’t know this took place). Anyways, after weeks of digesting, I had a bit of a breakdown and shared with her what happened, and it got back to his friends, family, and eventually his employer. This is 8.5 years later. My assaulter (25) works in a very professional environment and makes a lot of money. But this environment is very strict, so when these allegations got to them, two other girls came forward, and it was me who created the domino effect. Assaulter finds out it was me who shared first, and has threatened legal action for taking his job. I haven’t even begun to figure out what to do or how to do it, or let alone how to find appropriate legal representation. Can someone please explain the steps?
