Was Given Car, Dropped 6k In Repairs, Now The Person Who Gave It To Me Wants It Back

Edit: my question is can I take the parts that I paid for off?
Edit2: I am not concerned with ownership of the vehicle. I do not want it. I just want to know how much trouble I can get in if I take all of the parts I paid for off it which would make the car inoperable.
So, we have received a car from a family member that they offered to give to us in our time of need. It came with quite a few issues to the point when we took it to the shop for what we thought was a couple of small issues turned out be about $6k in repairs. We were basically told that we were driving a death trap. This was with a new credit card we opened up specifically for car repairs. Less than a month after the repairs, the person who offered us the car wanted it back because her car broke down. We originally didn’t have a problem with it but then she said it would be for about 2 months. We deemed this inappropriately unreasonable as we still need a way to do our own things. She took it as an issue and it stormed into taking the car sooner, threating to call the police, and pressing charges. We were told to return the car in the condition we received it. We mentioned to take off everything we invested into. And from there we are currently taking out all of our stuff and will be giving the car back as instructed.
