$10k To Get $2500/mo??

Card image cap

Location: Colorado

My girlfriend got a divorce and her ex has been ordered to pay $2,500 per month in alimony (he makes well beyond $15,000 per month). This was almost 2 years ago and he hasn't paid a single dime. She took him to court twice and won both times, and has been awarded a judgment. He now has a new job making even more money but because he's a vengeful narcissist he will continue to not pay and has even started demanding she pay him child support.

So she went to a lawyer today and he told her that it would cost $6,000 for him to start on the process of executing this judgment (hopefully by garnishing wages and taxes) and that the entire case will cost around $10,000. Does that seem right?

She already has the judgment but doesn't know how to execute it to garnish his wages. We also know that as soon as she starts that process he's going to hire a very expensive attorney (he's already said he would rather spend more than the alimony payment on a lawyer) so she would rather have some representation to make sure he can't manipulate the law any further.

So I'm seeking some advice. Is it worth it to hire an attorney now? Does that price seem right? He swore that is the lowest price anyone in the state would offer. Or, should she try to execute this judgment herself?

Thanks for any advice!
