Very Upset About This

Hi thank you for reading this first of all, i live in denver colorado and recently my ex was found dead in her home we have been seperated for about 3 years because she had a drinking problem, earlier that day i was called by the detective in charge of the investigation with many questions but he wouldn't tell me her condition when i asked about her, he said he would call me back later but never did. Fast forward about 5pm denver police showed up at my house with only my 14 year old and my 12 years old at home alone because i was at work, i have had my kids since we seperated, and they told my 14 year old daughter that her mom was dead, i fell that was wrong and they should've handled this situation better, im so angry about them doing that, can i sue the department for mishandling this situation.
