Unsure If This Is Retaliation (employment Law)
Location: Arizona
Beginning of September this year I received a review and a raise by my employer and I was told I will be receiving a stipend of $70 monthly (to be paid out bi-weekly)
When I received my first paycheck I noticed that my hourly pay did not reflect full raise. I was given.
on September 26, I emailed the HR manager about my raise, not reflecting correct correctly on my paychecks. She then forwarded my email to someone else in the HR department that would be able to assist me. I did not receive a response so I followed up on October 7th.
I did finally get a response on October 20 letting me know that they took a portion of my raise and that was towards the stipend. I did not feel that this was right, so I looked into it and per Arizona law from what I’ve found online states that if they were going to pull my stipend from my pay race, I was to be notified of that when I was told about how much my pay was and that it’s typically not included in my wages is supposed to be separate.
I did email HR back same day on October 20 and explain this to them and said I just wanted to make sure that this was accurate.
And then sent another email on October 30 following up on what I found out online about my pay raises in the stipend. I never got a response and then on Monday, November 3, I was let go for my job and they’ve told me that it was because they were eliminating my position.
this definitely sounds fishy to me as I feel like I was let go due to the fact that I was questioning my raise and the stipend and how they did it.
any advice if you can give would be very much appreciated
