Uhaul Stolen Under My Name

I want to preface that; Yes, I am dumb, naive, and a pushover. I know what I did was incredibly stupid. Im just trying to get out of this with minimal damage. Sorry if this is long. I'll try to shorten it/add a TLDR.

I (26f) got a 2 bedroom with my boyfriend last year. However, 2 months later he left me. I tried maintaining the apartment by myself but rent is high, groceries are expensive, and I have 3 animals. After a couple more months, I began to search for either a 2nd job or roommates. I was having no luck for either after a month and a half til 2 people finally responded to my ad, a couple and a single man. I got slight weird vibes from the couple but unfortunately the other man backed out almost a day after I met him. After a week of no other responses, I agreed to let the couple rent my 2nd room. (I also found a 2nd job shortly after they moved in ????) They were nice in the beginning. Paid rent on time, shared food that they cooked, got me random trinkets that were my style. There was even an instant where they played their music too loud, a neighbor came knocking to tell us to turn it down, and they legit never played it that loud again! They were decent people and we mostly kept to ourselves.

However these last 2-3ish months (final months of the lease) they stopped paying rent? Only the guy had a legitimate job and the girl sold some art online. The guy said he had some child support that took most of their money, dealing with legal drama with his baby mama, etc etc. I tried telling them either pay or itd escalate, but with my 2nd job I was gone 12/13 hours of the day and I am nonconfrontational. Dont have family here and little friends, so nothing was really threatening. All last month they kept saying they were leaving, but weeks went by. Finally last monday they said they found a place (Ik ik. Had money for a new place but not paying me rent?) but asked for help for a uhaul because the person that was gonna help backed out. I was just so desperate for them to leave, I said yes.... Again, I know very stupid. I just wanted them gone.

So we got the truck mid monday with me as the main driver and card on file, them as the alternative drivers., and to be returned on Wed. She even gave me cash for it. They were legitimately packing up and hauling things to somewhere. Then on Tuesday morning they said they were gonna put some boxes in storage unit and be right back. I was too focused on packing my own things, and cleaning I just said okay... then that was the last I saw of them. I tried texting and calling but they never answered. It was getting late and I had work so I hoped for the best for the next day. After work, I came home, still not there so I entered their room and discovered they left it trashed. Garbage everywhere, a couple furniture pieces left, stains/burn marks I think on the carpet. They left a couple loads of clothes too, so I thought would legitimately come back. Tried texting again, cleaned it bit and realized i should've taken pictures at the very beginning (I did but mostly the stains at that point) and realized they stole a couple things too. I called a non emergency line but got told since they lived there and it wasnt a breaking and entering deal, to physically go in a station. This was like 8/9pm on Wed. Thursday/Yesterday morning, I get texts from uhaul that the truck hasn't been returned. After work, I call Uhaul to let them know they went AWOL with truck and to mark it as stolen, and that i was on my way to a station now to file a police report as well. I gave as much info as I could and possible locations they might be to the station. My main problem now is that Uhaul has been trying to charge me late/stolen fees. Ofc I dont want trouble with them or the law but at the same time I dont want to pay for people who screwed me over. Im not sure what to do now.

TLDR: Got stuck in a high rent apartment by myself. Rented to couple. Fine at first then didnt pay rent last 2 months. Stupidly helped them get a uhaul truck and now they went awol with truck after leaving a trashed room and stole a couple things from me. Filed a police report but now Uhaul is trying to charge me for late/stolen fees. Unsure what to do now
