Defamation To Spread False Rumors That Someone Committed A Worse Crime Than They Did?
My family is being harassed and tormented by a small group of people due to my spouses record. It is a sex offense corruption of minors that was brought down to misdemeanors for harassment. It involved self pleasure while driving, a woman and her teenage children saw and reported it.
People in our town found out when a prominent person printed out the affidavit and the initial charges and mailed them in anonymous packages to everyone I know and everyone in our neighborhood. Since then people have been claiming my spouse committed a worse crime, that they pleasure themselves to kids. Wild stories about them going to parks and doing this and none of that ever happened. My spouse served probation and is not on the sex offender list. We just want to move on with our lives after my spouse made a poor decision but these people won’t leave us alone. The attacks are mostly online and through word of mouth other than the packages.
I was unable to prove it was this local prominent person because the post office (in another town they went to another town to mail these) wouldn’t give the surveillance video without a subpoena and I couldn’t get one without having a name to file at least a civil order. The police said it wasn’t harassment even though almost 30 packets were sent out they were all sent out on the same mailing date. Location: PA. Is there any recourse?
