Ticketed By Hoa Security.

Hello,

I was pulled over in a gated community by hired security for speeding. His vehicle had blue lights and the security company name on the side. However, he handed over a ticket to me without identifying himself and said I was speeding and there would be points on my license. He also did not identity how he determined my speed. He just took my license and information down. I know I could’ve just kept driving and not stopped since he wasn’t an actual cop, but I wanted to know if this is legit or not?

For context, the hoa road is privately owned, however there’s a sign posted that it’s under jurisdiction of the county’s sheriffs department and private security. I was handed a ticket with a court date in which he said it would get reduced in half. From my understanding, that as a non resident of the neighborhood, they can only issue a warning/citation (if I were a resident, I know it would be a different story). Therefore, can they enforce a fine and points on my license for this? I was under the assumption that only an active county’s sheriff or police officer can enforce points, not hired security.
