Soon To Be Ex-wife Stole My Keys.

I filed for divorce from my wife in March due to her having an affair while I was deployed. While I was gone, she took approximately 10k out of my personal savings (we have separate accounts) and purchased a new vehicle. I told her at the time it was okay, so no issue there.

I bought a new vehicle in 2024 with no assistance from her. Neither of us are on each other’s title or loan.

At some point, my wife took both sets of her keys and all my spare keys and hid them in her room. We have a verbal agreement not to violate each other’s personal areas (bedrooms, bathrooms).

I don’t feel comfortable with her having access to me when I’m not there. I have her on camera going through my trunk while I was at work (I often ride my motorcycle).

I confronted her, and I asked her to either return all the spare keys to the common area (living room) or give me my spare keys back. She’s refused and told me to call my lawyer.

What are my options? Can I just go into her room and get my keys? Should I file a police report?

BMW tells me it’ll be approximately 1000$ to deactivate the FOB she has and activate a new one.

My lawyer feels are racking up so I thought I’d seek some free advice first.
