Shareholder Voting By Proxy Material Received After Voting Deadline.

Not sure if this is the right sub but this doesn't seem particularly legal to me. Company I work for has (well had) a major vote on some board decisions, and all employees within this company have stock tied to our 401k. I received a lage packet with all information on the voting matters on May 18th, and the deadline to vote was May 17th. Yesterday, May 20th, I received a proxy voting card which also stated that the deadline to vote was May 17th.
I spoke with a number of other employees and it appears to be across the board that we all received the information late and the proxy voting cards were almost unanimously received on May 20th. This doesn't sit right with many of us and doesn't seem particularly legal either as we were deprived the right to voice our opinions on some major issues to be voted on. Any advice?
