Can You Be Denied Care For Being Transgender In Oklahoma?

Card image cap

Now, I don't mean trans affirming care. I mean getting a general procedure done and the doctor is so transphobic they decide not to do it.

I was going to get a hysterectomy for NON trans related reasons (my body loves making endometriosis tissue to the point where it starts blocking my other organs). I was going to get it done in Oklahoma City. They had my records etc. And I already spent the plane tickets, flew out, booked hotel, etc etc.

Did my pre-op with the surgeon and he said we were good to go. I later got a call from him saying that the higher ups at the hospital no longer wanted to treat me because I'm transgender and it doesn't align with their Christian values. I think they thought that I was just saying I had endo to get a hysterectomy as trans affirming surgery, but the surgeon tried to clarify with them that we have evidence (previous surgery removal, biopsy, etc.) that I have super bad endo and it's affecting my quality of life. My chart had all the info and images and everything, so they can't deny this.

Still, the surgery was canceled last-minute even after I already paid the pre-op consultation fee. I tried calling the surgery center to talk to the head doctor or whoever but I keep getting the "nobody's here who can talk to you about this" thing from nurses. They said they'd leave a message for them to call me back but it's been crickets.

Is this legal? I know in some states it is but IDK about Oklahoma. What would I be able to do about this?
