Roommates Guest Stole And Commandeered My Wifi Camera
Location: Washington State
Hi there, I set up a camera a bit ago after my ex broke up with me not even halfway through our lease, I purchased a wifi camera to view the couch in the "common space" (living room). Currently due to our situation i live on the couch in that living room and we have a 2nd bedroom that was my office that has not been converted to a bedroom. Since the breakup there has been no verbal communication in regards to any changes that need to be made to make the other more comfortable (only passive aggressive moving of my stuff). Today I am on vacation and she took the opportunity to bring a few people over to dump all of my remaining stuff from the master bedroom to "my bed". In the midst of this they decided to go through the entertainment center to pack up stuff that is theirs and they came across my camera. They then proceeded to take it over by redoing the setup on their phone and I have now since lost access to it. It was only ever setup as a trail cam for our cats and to watch over me and my "living space". Am I in the wrong? Am I legally in trouble?
Edit: I want to be very clear there was no malicious intent, only interest in protecting my own property
Edit2: my ex was NOT aware of it prior, as I was under the impression it is not my responsibility to tell her about it if it is in a common space. Camera was installed post breakup the camera does not record audio. It is a live camera with motion detection screenshots.
