Restoration Company Seems Like They Are Attempting To Scam Me

Card image cap

This restoration company is attempting to charge me $5,000 for leaving a few fans and a humidifier in my previously flooded basement that I personally removed all of the water from, personal belongings, and damaged subfloor/carpet, and dry wall (that I also cut out and removed) on my own (the company told me that I f I removed these things on my own it would save me immense amounts of money due to less labor hours of their employees). I never signed anything at the time of the remediation, however they claim they have my signature on paperwork regarding the completed work. Multiple different people at multiple different times stated that I would be lucky if the grand total would even come close to HALF of the $5000 (when I say multiple, I mean at least 5-7 different people) that the insurance company provided me for restoration/repairs because if all of the work I was doing on my own. Low and behold, when I received the bill it was just under $5000 that I owed them for less than an hours worth of labor and the “rental” of a few fans and a humidifier. I checked with the BBB and this company had terrible scores and they have been absolutely atrocious at keeping in touch with me when I reached out to them to have this reviewed as the cost was outlandish and seemed fishy. Do they have any legal recourse against me if I refuse to pay them? They don’t have my SSN or a debit/credit card on file for me either.

Thank you all in advance.

Edit:

I will preface that it has almost been an entire year since the flood and I have reached out to them close to, if not more than 10 times, always being told someone will be in touch with me with not a single response from anyone except to call and try to collect money from me after multiple attempts at having them review my case for a more accurate price for services rendered. I was on board with paying them at the beginning but because of the lack of communication and willingness to even speak with me this has left an insanely terrible taste in my mouth and they seem as if they are trying to take advantage of someone who very literally had to go through a disaster less than a year after buying my first home.
