Beef Mistakenly Served At Our Hindu Engagement Party

My fiancé and I, both of us being Hindu, recently held an engagement party. In our culture, engagements are celebrated with the same grandeur as weddings, so we chose a large and well-known hotel on the Las Vegas strip for our event.

As Hindus, most of our family is vegetarian and none of us eat beef or pork. We emphasized this to the hotel's event planner multiple times. Since none of their menus were vegetarian-friendly, we modified an existing menu by replacing the beef and pork items with vegetarian proteins. When signing the Banquet Event Order (BOE), we noticed it still listed the original menu with beef and pork. We pointed this out, and the event planner apologized and printed a new BOE, which we signed.

However, on the day of the event, we were shocked to find that beef and pork were served at dinner. It appears the correct BOE was not sent to the banquet chefs. To make matters worse, some guests accidentally consumed the pork as it was a topping on the pasta (pork lomo).

Our guests were very upset, and as hosts, we were devastated and embarrassed. An important and auspicious day for us was ruined.

We want to seek compensation from the hotel but are unsure of a fair amount. Should it be 20% of our food bill? More? Less?

We are hesitant to involve lawyers, as these big hotels likely have powerful legal teams. Complicating matters is that after a menu tasting, we made some dessert changes, resulting in a third and final BOE. Unfortunately, this BOE reverted to the original menu with beef and pork, but we didn't notice as we were focused on confirming the dessert changes. Our signatures are on this final BOE.

Any advice on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.
