Promised Money To Move Out Of Apartment By Landlord... Never Got Paid For The Move Out???
I was promised 5K to move out of an apartment by a landlord who was attempting to sell 2 buildings. This same landlord made the same promise to all the tennant families (5 families total). A buyer was lined up, and all we had to do was move out to get this 5K "get out bonus" which was going to be used to help with moving costs.
Needless to say, we found out the landlord is trying to dodge paying the 5K. Trying to block the sale to try to get more money out of the buyer, who is most likely going to back out as it is barely worth what they offered him originally.
Long story short on this, the place was decent when moved in.... landlord did nothing to fix the place up and slowly let it just crumble. This was a great opportunity to get out and now I am short on money from moving, and never got the 5K. No one was paid yet, due to the purchase delays the landlord is causing.
TLDR: Landlord promised money to move out so falling apart building with no utilities anymore could be sold, and never followed through on their end of promise due to purposeful property sale delays caused by landlord.
Anything we can legally do? We lost so much stuff when the place flooded.... twice. When the cabinets fell off the wall and broke everything in them. When we had to take them to court cause the power was shut off even though we were paying for it. All of this is documented via texts and FB messenger.
