Pregnant Wife May Be Terminated

Yesterday at work my wife was told in confidence by her boss that the business that she works at may try to fire her when her weight restrictions kick in. Are they allowed to do this or would this be a violation of her civil rights? She works in healthcare and the position she works in currently does require the employees to be able to lift/physically manipulate the individuals in her job role. However, there are other areas that are significantly less demanding and she has worked in those areas before. The job is located in Illinois.

EDIT

She spoke to HR this morning and they told her that she would be placed on leave when she received a weight restriction from the doctor. They say that all employees need to be able to do any job at any time.

We think that is a reasonable conclusion, however, what leverage do we have by knowing that the job consisting of "reptitive lifting" is not true for most of the emoloyees?

TLDR: Not fired, but placed on leave at their discression despite what we believe to be a reasonable accomodation.
