Partner Moved Out Of State And Got An Eviction Notice From Original Residence.

This is my first post so I’m sorry if I’m not doing this right but I really don’t know what to do. I (26nb) live in Pennsylvania and my partner (28nb) has recently moved in with me and my parents (elderly) from Indiana. They moved out of their original rental house situation (where the eviction is coming from) in October 2023 and moved into a different house (paid money to person with mortgage on house) before moving in with me and they’ve been here for 1 month so far.

The original house had my partner, and two close friends living there at the time so three people in total. One friend, I’ll just say their name is Abby, was the person in charge of rent and utilities. They never paid rent on time, never paid for utilities, and never cleaned the house or took care of it. My partner and the other friend in the house asked for their names to be taken off the lease when they moved out, and Abby told them both that they were taken off the lease.

Understandably, Abby is getting evicted after not paying rent or utilities for who knows how long. My partner (I’ll say their name is Finn), has not lived there since October as has the other friend. Finn got a text today saying they were being summoned for an eviction court hearing in Indiana, but there is no way for us to make it for an out of state court hearing with both of our jobs. The other friend who lived there got a text as well.

On top of this, we cannot get into contact with Abby or their boyfriend to find out more of what’s going on. (We believe they’ve either A.) turned their phone off, or B.) have not paid for it so it got shut off)

We do have proof that Finn moved out, as well as change of addresses that are state verified.

What can we do to try and fix this situation without going to Indiana for the court hearing, if there is anything?

TL;DR: Partner hasn’t lived in rental house with roommates since October and has received an eviction notice and court hearing out of state.
