Neighbor’s Dog Killed My Dog, Do I Have Recourse To Sue In Ny State?
A few nights ago, my neighbor’s dogs broke the fence post between our houses and her pitbull killed my little dog on her property.
I let my dog out to pee and he and my neighbor’s dogs began barking at each other at the fence line. Her dogs then broke a fence post (my dog was only 10lbs, he did not break the fence—she has two large dogs. One of whom is a pitbull). Im not sure if my dog was dragged over the property line or entered on his own, since when I got to the fence he was already being cornered and attacked by the neighbors pitbull on her property. Would I have any recourse to sue in this situation?
If it makes a difference, I found out after the fact from animal control that this pitbull has killed another little dog before, but there was no official report filed.
