My Job Put Me In A Security Position, I Have No Formal Training, Is This Legal?

I work at a trucking company that has seven locations. I was hired in under an office role, sorting through paperwork and checking drivers paperwork to make they have the correct information, strictly in the office.
There are two gates in which truckers must be checked in, and checked out of. One of the gates also is responsible for making sure that employees have their badges in order to get through.
They fired the outside security company responsible for checking in and out the drivers at these gates.
In turn they announced the people in my office position are now responsible for being stationed at these gates. We were told three weeks in advance and only given a stapled paper notice that we were going to be cut hours, and what new days of the scheduled work week shift we’d be a part of. I was moved days and cut to 36 hours (paid for 40).
Today is my literal first day in the gate. I was given no formal ‘training’ no one told me instructions on what to do (im at the gate responsible for making sure people have their badges and truckers information is correct).
This new role isn’t hard, a lot of what they want us to check for has been taught in my office position through other unrelated tasks. People that have been hired directly for this position have been ‘formerly trained’ (taught by the other office employees then sent to the gates).
God forbid someone brings a gun or I am put in an unsafe situation or someone drives by me with dangerous intent, won’t it fall back on me? Even if I have no certifications in security or no technical formal training in this role?
I didn’t sign any paperwork saying I agreed to these changes, was only enforced that I would be required to work this new position today, is this legal?
