My Girlfriends Employer Is Asking For A % Of Her Income For Every Job She Takes.

I live in NC if this helps. Hi, I'll try to keep this short. Basically, my girlfriend works in the beauty industry as a 1099 contractor, she originally had an agency, which asks for 20% of her income on any job that the agency put her in contact with. Due to them being honestly terrible people and intentionally flooding their own market, she left, but they're still asking for this %. She contacted a lawyer about it, who said that NC has a contract law specifically stating that her contract, which was/is set to auto renew, can't be enforced because the last time she received a notification about it was in 2019, and you have to specifically notify them via Email/Snail mail in order for it to be a valid contract. When she left, they tried to tell her that only applies to "Consumer contracts" and were threatening to go after her if she tried to work with any of the agencies they put her in touch with (So all of them cause NC's market isnt huge), but they'll "Go away" if she gives them the amount of money they wanted to make for her 3 year contract with them (So around 6.5k). My question is, does this fall under being a Non-Compete? Or is it some other type of contract? Is there any other way to get them to go away as well?

Thank you for ANY advice.
