My Daughter Walked Out Of Daycare And Into The Street, And No One Noticed Until A Stranger Found Her.

I recently returned to work for the first time since having my daughter two years ago.

I enrolled her in a daycare with 11 children and 3 caregivers.

On her second day there, I was driving when I suddenly saw my daughter several blocks away from the daycare, walking down the street with a woman I had never seen before.

I immediately stopped and asked what was happening. The woman told me she had found my daughter a block away walking in the middle of the road, and was taking her to the nearby police station. (I have no reason to doubt her intentions, as there really is a station on that street.)

I drove my daughter back to the daycare, only to find that none of the staff even realized she was missing.

I was in complete shock, terrified by what could have happened if that stranger hadn’t found her. Still, I tried to stay calm, I asked questions, gathered information, and wrote everything down. Then I sent an email to the daycare owner summarizing the incident, both to document it with a timestamp and to inform them that we’d be withdrawing her.

This happened on Friday in Puerto Rico, and I haven’t received any response since. I’d like to know whether I can take legal action against the daycare for endangering my child, and if it’s possible to warn other parents about what happened without risking a slander accusation.
