Misuse Of Registration
Location: TN. So I, 19F have no criminal record, not even a single speeding ticket. I am pursuing my criminal justice degree and plan to become a lawyer in the future. Anyways, I had to drive my mom's car to the store tonight and I got pulled over because a police officer decided to randomly run my mom's license plate. Apparently the plate did not match my mom's car. I had no clue about this, neither does my mom now that I have told her. The car is properly registered and has insurance and I remember my mom buying this plate months ago. She has been driving the car for months with no problem and I even entered her plate number in a database with the Alcoholic Beverage Commission in TN bc I'm volunteering there. Apparently it isn't registered to any car though and they seized it. The car and registration is not in my name and I had no clue about the plate but the misuse of registration (class c misdemeanor in tn) is in my name. Is there any way I can take this to court and get it off my record? I'm happy to pay the fee and my mom is willing to transfer the misdemeanor over to her because it is her car. I just really do not want anything on my record because of the field I am going into. Any advice? I may be able to go to our insurance company and get proof that the tags are registered to her car if that helps. I'm just really scared this will hurt my future job prospects, thank you
