Loan Company Is Claiming I Never Paid Them. I Did But They're Taking Me To Court For It.

Location: California: In February of 2023 I walked into an Ace Cash Express to pay off a payday loan I had taken out a week before of about $275. I used the ATM inside to withdrawal $280 and pay it off in cash. The lady said I was all set and I left as I did 2 times before with the same process. 2 weeks later I walk in to take another loan out and a different lady is telling me I still haven't paid my previous loan off. The information she was asking before led me to believe she was just confused on the information so I just left and decided to come back another time. I did not need to return any more after this so I forgot about it. A few days ago I recieve a spam email from a law firm claiming I owed this company $1400 and if I don't pay by today, I will be summoned to court under fraud and other charges. As well as blocking my SSN from everything. The only thing I have is a transaction from cashapp down to the minute withdrawing the cash from the ATM from that location. What can I do to fight this? I have never had to deal with any legal issues before so i'm lost please any advice
