Landlord Did Not Disclose Water Bill And Now I Am Being Threatened To Having My Water Turned Off.
i have lived here for two years.. low income housing if it makes any difference. my lease states “tenant is responsible for gas, electric, and water (if applicable)” when my lease was signed the woman (she no longer works in the leasing office) told me water does not apply. I never once received a water bill in the mail from the city. Today i receive a notice on my door saying I owe 200 dollars and if I do not pay then my water is off tomorrow. I called leasing office and they said I always should have always been paying but paying directly to the city. So i called the city and they told me my apartment headquarters has been paying for the water for the past 2 years and never notified that there was a tenant move in and that they will change it to my name now but were very confused and concerned that my landlord never notified them and continued to pay my water bill with a debit card??
i told my landlord about this and asked that since the water bill was being billed to their headquarters and i was told I do not need to worry about a water bill if they could cover the fee, or subtract the difference from next months rent. They said they will let me know this week….
is this allowed and who is responsible for the bill?
