I’m Getting Subpoenaed To Testify As A Witness. What Should I Expect/how Should I Prepare?

A few months ago I had to call 911 due to a domestic violence case with my neighbors. It was really scary, there was a gun drawn, the woman and her baby took shelter in my apartment, and the man was arrested.

Today I got a call from an attorney’s office asking to hear my statement again and asked if I’d be willing to testify. I said yes without hesitation, as I truly believe this man to be dangerous and a threat to both my neighbor and her baby.

I told my mom about this and she was telling me that I’ll have to be careful with what I say bc the lawyer will try to trip me up and discredit me. I’m only 23, I’ve never been to court before, not even for jury duty.

What should I expect? Is there anything in particular I should do to prepare? I don’t always do well articulating my thoughts under pressure so I want to make sure I know exactly what I’m going to say before hand so that I don’t mess this up for her.

They haven’t set a court date yet so I’m not sure if I’ve got weeks or months until then
