I Have Court Tomorrow For Possession And Paraphernalia Charges; I Quit Smoking Weed Nearly A Year Ago, Genuinely Forgot The Weed Was In The Car. What Should I Tell The Judge? [idaho, Us]

I'm from Washington state. I work in Idaho. On my way to work I got pulled over for speeding. I was running late, that was my fault, shit happens. But when I opened my glovebox to grab my registration, the officer saw a tube from a pre-roll joint.

I quit smoking nearly a year ago, but I own an entertainment company and often drive around clients who still smoke. Any weed in my car is either from clients, or has been sitting there for 10-11 months. But I don't really think about it because I live in Washington, where recreational weed is legal. I'd only been at this Idaho gig for about a month when I was pulled over.

Having spotted the pre-roll tube, the officer had me step out of the car while he searched it. He wound up finding a baggie with like, one super dried out bud in it, and one pre-rolled joint, plus the joint container.

He let me go with three tickets:

  • the speeding ticket, which is like $90 that I don't mind paying;
  • I37-2732(c)(3) {M} - "controlled substance - possession of" for the actual weed;
  • I37-2734A(1) - "Drug paraphernalia - use or possess with intent to use" for the plastic tube the pre-roll was sold in.

If I remember correctly, each of those latter two are up to $1k and/or 1 year.

Tomorrow is my court date. What should I do/say? My biggest concerns are 1) I often visit and do gigs in Canada. From my understanding, though, a possession charge isn't likely to keep me from going up there, so I'm not too worried; 2) I'm working on moving permanently to Sweden, which has strict anti-cannabis laws, and I don't want this to ruin that; 3) I'm working 3 jobs, and I literally don't have time for classes or community service.
