How Would I Go About Establishing My Identity In Order To Leave My Parent's House?
I (M19, NJ) live with abusive parents. I have a part-time job with enough earned in checks to get an apartment, but I have no way to cash them since my parents control my bank account. They also have my SS card and birth certificate: I only have my SS number and College ID, as well as an expired learner's permit.
I don't drive, and I'm aware of REAL ID, but I need the documents my parents have to earn enough identification points. When I ask, they say they will help me receive this identification and a credit card, but they never actually do.
Do I have any recourse, or do I need to confront them? I would prefer not doing that, because I don't want to risk them either kicking me out or tightening their control over me. But l frankly cannot live like this for any longer.
