Got A “written Verbal Warning” For Spreading Misinformation… But The Info Came Directly From The Memo They Asked Me To Print??
I’m honestly just confused and frustrated, and I need some outside perspective. A coworker asked me to print a memo that had our upcoming holiday schedule on it. I printed him a copy and made one for myself. On that memo, it clearly stated that we have a floating holiday we can use for birthdays, religious holidays, or just whenever we want a day off. Well… apparently the floating holiday policy has changed. It’s no longer usable “whenever you want” — only for birthdays, religious purposes, and maybe certain bank holidays. No one told us this, and the memo still shows the old rules.
So my boss sees that memo in my coworker’s hand and another copy on my desk. Instead of asking what happened, he decides I was “printing and spreading misinformation” on purpose. He even went and got his boss involved like I was starting a revolt. He then gave me a written verbal warning on my record, saying this is my official warning for posting misinformation. But… the only “misinformation” was their outdated memo. I literally just printed what someone asked me to print — and didn’t hand it to anyone else except the guy who requested it.
No HR ever came in. No investigation. No chance to explain. Just a warning and “this is your verbal.”
I’m worried this could come back to hurt me later even though I did nothing wrong. Should I ask for the warning to be removed? Should I write a statement explaining my side? Or should I just keep my head down and let it go?
Has anyone dealt with something this dumb and bureaucratic?
