Girlfriend’s Mom Wanting To Transfer The Title Of The House To Her Name? Good Or Bad Move? (ca)
Here’s the situation, my girlfriend’s mom won this house in a divorce in the 1990s, she is an immigrant and doesn’t fully understand the legal system I’m trying to help them before they make a potential misstep. She has been living in extreme poverty the entire time and is getting older but has never missed a payment on the house. Details are sketchy on this part but for some reason she believes someone (banks, government) is going to try and seize the house even though she has never missed a payment because something to do with her being on gov assistance (food stamps) which is something I’ve never heard of. She is set on transferring the title to my girlfriend although my belief is it will raise the payments on the house? We are pretty early in the process. I am advising them to speak to an attorney and would like to see if setting up some kind of trust can fix the situation? Thanks in advance
