I would like some general advice or even just a general idea of what sort of court battle I will have ahead of me. So, I was shot three times by my X fiancé, my dog was shot twice. My dog survived and I did as well. However our injuries are severe. The “ suspect” in this case has been jailed with the charge of first degree assault with a deadly weapon.

I would like to know how I should go about speaking to a lawyer. I have two consults tomorrow, however I’m just lost on what to ask for etc. I’m also unsure of how long these processes take. I desire to be compensated for my injuries and dogs injuries. I also intend to sue his parents for negligence due to their awareness of their son’s unstable mental health.

I also want to know potentially how long I could aim to put the man that shot me In jail for. I have tons of evidence that investigators have added to my case file etc.

Really any advice, outlook, opinions you have for me I would greatly appreciate. My mind has been all over the place trying to get things in order while simultaneously trying to recover from the trauma of it all. This just occurred last Tuesday… so it’s very fresh.
