Dentist Pulled The Wrong Tooth, Put A Bridge On It—and Now Says I Need An Implant. What Do I Do?

Location: Michigan
I’ll try to keep this short. Back in May, I went to the dentist for a toothache. He referred me to an endodontist, who said the tooth needed to be pulled. So I went ahead and had it extracted, and my dentist placed a bridge in that spot.
Fast forward to now: I’ve been unable to chew on that side of my mouth since the bridge was placed (about three weeks ago). I went back to the dentist yesterday and met with the owner. She told me through miscommunication on someone’s part, that they pulled the wrong tooth.
Apparently, the tooth that actually needed to be pulled is still in my mouth, and now I need that one removed too. On top of that, they’re telling me I’ll need implants to replace what was lost and they’ll put the cost of my unneeded bridge toward the implants, and try to bring down the price for me.
The dentist told me that the tooth they pulled “probably needed to come out anyway,” but I honestly feel like she’s just trying to cover herself. The whole thing has been pretty upsetting, and I’m now looking at paying even more money and going through more procedures because of their mistake.
Has anyone been through something like this? What would you do in my position? Should I be demanding a refund or looking into a complaint?
