Brother Stole My Car

My brother (25M who I live with) took my car last night when I was out with some friends. I came back to my house to find my car missing from the driveway. I had my keys in my backpack that was with me while I was out of the house so he must've found the spare key somewhere and taken it that way. I try to call him right away and it goes straight to voicemail and my texts will not go through to him. He does not respect my belongings and with his driving being being very reckless I never let him drive my car unless it's an actual emergency. Long story short he drove 4 hours away to California where we used to live and my car stopped working so he left it on the freeway and had some family friends (who knew that he had taken my car) come pick him up. They go pick him up and my car is nowhere to be found and he is saying "I don’t know where it is". My car was eventually found after some calling around and upon my family friends actually getting to the tow yard, my car will not start. They tried jump starting it and putting gas in it. They checked the dip stick for the oil level and the stick was melted. From what I am hearing my car will need some serious work and maybe a new motor (this is not confirmed the mechanic is going to take a look at it tomorrow morning). I'm beyond pissed at the moment because this has not only affected my work but also the family friends' work and daily lives were interrupted because of this so i'm not sure what to do in terms of legal action. Please let me know what I can or should do any advice is appreciated.
