Bathroom Breaks At Work

Card image cap

This may not be the exact thread or tag but im not really sure what this is considered? i work at a fast food place, and theyve wrote a new break policy for all employees to sign and agree with. while i do agree with the first part of it, im having trouble even comprehending the second part on bathroom policy.

it reads as follows: “in addition to your meal/rest break, you will be given one rest room break, per shift worked. this break should not exceed 5 minutes, or you will have to be clocked out for it. you will also need to let your shift lead know prior to taking it. Should you need additional restroom breaks, you will be required to clock out for them.”

i spoke to the assistant general manager and she said its for the other store but to make sure we have the same rules for both stores. my thing is, it feels discriminatory towards employees with stomach issues, crohns, small kidneys/bladder, if youre on water medication. can this truly be enforced? can i bring a doctors note? i do have stomach issues, and i use the bathroom 2-4 times a shift and i work 6-9 hour shifts five times a week. they also wrote at the bottom: “we will comply with all state and local laws that may govern meal and rest periods.” osha website is vague on what unreasonable restrictions on restroom usage is, but this feels unreasonable and absurd. i know people in child care, caring for small human life and they can pee ten times in a row if they have to. we make a singular dessert at my job. any advice is appreciated !! thank you eta: state of virginia!!
