Landlord Taking Security Deposit For Basement Flooding Damages - Philadelphia
My friend’s pipes got clogged and caused them to burst in the basement, which resulted in flooding. My friend claims to never using wipes only toilet paper but the repair guy that they landlord sent over said it’s due to wipes clogging toilet. Their landlord is making them pay the entire bill of $1,000. My friend doesn’t have that kind of money readily available so landlord said they’re taking their $1000 security deposit. They said it’s due to “tenant misuse”. Even though they don’t own the house, do they still have to pay all of that? Can they at least pay half? I feel like something can be done to protect them legally from landlord BS.
