Bad Dentist Experience

Card image cap

My wife just had a filling done at the dentist by a substitute doctor, our normal doctor was on vacation. Everything seemed normal but after we got home and the numbing subsided she continued to experience pain around her jaw joint. We were able to get a post-op appt with our regular dentist 2 days later and after taking some x-rays, his opinion is that her jaw is dislocated and needs to be put back in place. He tried to pop her jaw back in place it himself, but he wasn't able to, especially since it was very painful for my wife and he didn't want to push any harder. He referred us to an Oral & Facial Surgery clinic but they are booked up for an entire month. We asked for another referral and they are able to see us in about 1 week, but they don't take any insurance, and the cost will likely be $2k+ to sedate her and put the jaw back in place. My wife has been taking OTC pain medication for the last 2 days and is barely able to eat anything. Do I have any recourse I can pursue with our dental office? Can I ask them to pay for the procedure since it's their fault in the first place?
