[fl] Can I Sue Tenant For Fines On Property?
Hello!
I tried looking through the sub to find my answer, but can’t seem to find it. My tenant has always paid rent on time. However, one problem we’ve had since the beginning is the mess outside. I believe they are hoarders. Neighbors complained and got the city involved. We thought the issue was fixed and dealt with, but we recently learned that there’s a lien on the house. We don’t owe anything, so when we investigated we found out the city has been fining the property over the past years and now the fine is nearly $30,000. Can we evict the tenants and then sue them to pay this fine? We had no idea the city even gave us a fine. I feel horrible and believe I should’ve paid more attention to the property. Any guidance on how to proceed with this would be greatly appreciated.
TLDR: Tenants are hoarders and the mess was visible. City got involved and now there is a fine of $30,000 and a lien on the house. Hoping to get advice on how to approach this situation before getting a lawyer.
