(ca) Renting An Apartment Above The Leasing Office. They’re Complaining About Noise During Business Hours.

Posting for a friend.
Like the title says, my friend rents an apartment above the leasing office. He has his kids two weekdays per week (after school) and as kids tend to do, they make a bit of noise. The kids are 8 and 11 though, so it’s not like toddlers racing around nonstop or screaming or anything. The apartment has hardwood floors, but he put a rug down to try to muffle the noise a little.
The leasing office is constantly texting him asking him to keep the noise down during their office hours. It’s my understanding that this would be a reasonable request during “quiet hours” in the evenings, but surely it’s unreasonable to ask that his kids not make noise during the day? Does he have a legal leg to stand on if he just ignores the request or tells them to pound sand?
