Boarded General Slocum for an Evangelist Church picnic with his mother Anne and his siblings Henry (12) Wilhelmina (4) Anna (3) Elizabeth (1) at 9:30 A.M. The steamboat was in flames a few minutes later. Many passengers risked being trapped in the burning steamboat or drowning in the deep river. Only Henry survived the disaster.
