In his early years, Mr. Milton would help sell milk for the family's business, Milton Milk. After graduating from Causeway in 1941, he attended Cork University, graduating in 1945 with a bachelor's degree in Economics. He met his wife, Shannon, at church and they were married in 1944 at St John's Church. In 1945, he joined the British Army, where he was a Seaman.
