What To Do As My Elderly Parents Are Rapidly Running Out Of Money.

Card image cap

My elderly parents are rapidly spending all of their money and woefully in debt. I’m worried that as KY residents I will be held responsible for their care under Filial law. Is there anyway to sever all legal ties with them? I was adopted by them both so I don’t know if that plays into this at all. Or is there a way I can get conservatorship over them and handle their finances? Yesterday my mom called me to say they had spent their last 5000 dollars of their savings on a door to door tree trimming service (ie they totally got scammed). They aren’t making smart decisions and constantly are being taken advantage of like this. I’m just not sure what to do to protect them and also protect myself and my young family. I’m an only child.
