Transmission Auto Repair For $3000 Two Month Later They Now Need Another $2200

Hello all. For post here so I hope I do this correctly. I'm a retired vet on fixed income and financially this stuff stresses me out. Back in June I had some transmission issues on a 2007 Chevy Tahoe. I took it to a reputable shop near where I live currently. I've lived here for about a year so I hadn't had too much knowledge in the area for mechanics and picked based on reviews etc.
Fast forward to July where I can finally get it handled the auto shop tells me I lost the 3rd and 4th gears in the transmission and that I'll need a new one. They just so happen to have a wrecked vehicle they bought to part out and the transmission in it is used but only 4000 miles on it when they bought it. They could use that one and charge me for a used one instead of a a brand new one saving me money. I agree after getting the estimate and get a personal loan from the bank to cover the $2700 after labor and all the things included.
Two month later and less that a thousand miles since the replacement and the transmission goes out. I lose all four gears on a Friday evening. I get a tow truck have them haul it back to the auto shop so that they can figure out what went wrong. After several weeks of stressing and making a few phone calls with them they are saying it will need to be rebuilt and that they only had a 30 day warranty on the transmission since it was used and they were going off what they were told about it only having 4000 miles to begin with. Through discussion they've made a new quote to remove the transmission and have it sent off to be replaced and stated they would just charge me at cost. The new quote is $2200 that includes the rebuild fluid along with another $900 in labor to remove and install.
It all sounds wrong to me and they kind of have me in a pickle because I need a vehicle, I'm on fixed income and I don't do well with confrontation due to mental health things. I would assume this falls into small claims court but pass that I don't really know. I have no idea about any lawyers in my area really so I figured I would ask her first before shopping around for one to help me.
