Suspected Educational Neglect In Md.
Location: Maryland
I have reason to believe that someone is not providing an education (homeschool or otherwise) to their children. The most concerning part is that her kids have clear developmental delays and should have been in school for several years. One of them is non verbal and now I’m concerned they are getting no resources.
The problem is that in Maryland Truancy is a misdemeanor offense but it doesn’t seem like DHS gets involved unless there is suspected neglect in other ways (I don’t currently have any evidence that their physical needs aren’t being met or that there is anything else nefarious going on but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t concerned given the circumstances). That said, I’m not sure if my concern that they have never been to school coupled with the fact that they have clear delays change things. The law is pretty confusing and I know I will be burning bridges if I report so I want to make sure I’m doing this in the best, most gentle way possible for everyone involved.
Where can I report this?
