Statue Of Limitations

to understand what i’m asking a little background info needs to be explained so here,
when i was a child i went to a daycare and the daycare lady’s son SA’d me for almost 2 years (4-6 years old)
anyways, when i was 12 we reported it and he was charged with 2nd degree SA. i am now 16.
my mom and i are pondering about suing the daycare lady since i was under her care the entire time and she either wasn’t doing her job on watching me, or she knew and didn’t care.
but what we’re stuck on is if it’s possible with the statue of limitations. i believe it’s ten years. but my mom is wondering if the time expands or restarts even when i reported it (i was 12 so it fit the statue of limitations)
my mom reached out to a lawyer and they seem interested to take my case but i just wanted an outside opinion before because i’m nervous lol.
