Squatters, Do We Have The Right To Easily Remove Them Without The Court?

My aunt passes away and there was a man living there that we were not aware of until she passed. She was not the property owner, her mother is. He was allowed to stay there as long as he took care of the property, and we checked in every now and then. Our last checkin, we found he had moved out and his friends moved in. He gave them keys, and they changed the locks, and went as far as breaking into the garage and changing those locks. They have not paid rent and are now saying they won't leave without a court order. I am not understanding how this isn't trespassing and vandalism at this point, but everything I am reading says we need to get a court order eviction? This is in Indiana.
