Sibling And I Are Suing In Small Claims, Can My Boyfriend Serve The Defendants?

We are in Colorado suing a landlord. I’m trying to avoid paying extra fees to have the sheriff or court do it.

The court documents say “any person over 18 not a party to the action”. Google is making me nervous about having my boyfriend do it rather than someone fully unconnected to myself and my sibling. I keep reading things like “the judge might not like it if they find out” or “I wouldn’t have family do it” etc.

Will we get in trouble if my boyfriend serves them? He is known to the landlords in passing (they might vaguely recognize him or his vehicle). The whole process is making me super nervous and I want to make sure we do everything exactly right.
