Restraining Order Against False Accuser

Card image cap

This is a throwaway account:

For the past year, I have been being harassed by a former neighbor and romantic partner. When I still lived next door to her, she was coming to my house just about every night and slamming on my door for hours on end, until I opened it. I had to call the police on her multiple times, and open up both a harassment case and a no trespass order against her, but the police were never able to do anything, because she would always just run back home.

Eventually, I just decided to leave the house, and over the next few months, she reached out to just about everyone I know and has made false accusations about non-sexual assault. I constantly had people reaching out to me asking who this person was who was contacting them and whether or not it was true. She's also repeatedly tried to contact me from a No Caller ID number. I also have near thousands of text messages from before I blocked her of her ranting and raving like a lunatic.

For a while it finally stopped, and I thought I was in the clear, until I was walking my dog in my new neighborhood the other night and I saw her drive by me. She swung back around, engaged me, and then left. Then she called me later on that night, repeating all of the same false accusations all over again. Then last night, she reached out to friends and family once again telling them that I was threatening suicide and having police sent to my house to do a wellness check.

I need to seek out a restraining order, but I am scared to death that if I open up that process, she will formally accuse me of one of these false crimes and I'll be the one in trouble. The three incidents shes' referring to were all instances of me having to forcibly remove her from my property (I live in a Castle Law / Stand Your Ground State). In one, I was directing her towards my door, which she says that I threw her into. Another, she was at my door at 4 in the morning, banging on it, and when I came to the door, the window broke and she claims I punched through it and that glass cut her face, even though my hand doesn't have a single scar. In another, I chased her off my lawn only to have her grab me behind the head, and when I pushed her off, she fell and claims that I threw her and her arm has hurt ever since. All of these incidents happened within a couple of weeks of one another, nearly a year ago. The police already know about the second two from statements I made.

I have tried talking to a family lawyer, who told me I need a criminal defense attorney. The criminal defense attorneys all tell me that they can't help unless I've already been charged with a crime. I just need someone to tell me what. my real level of danger here is if I pursue the restraining order, and help guide me through the process without accidentally implicating myself.

I don't know what to do or where to go.
