Random Guy Came In And Slapped Me While I Was Teaching A Class

Hey guys,
I am a TA at a university. I was teaching a class when a random guy walked into my class. As I turned towards him he came up to me and slapped me across the face. I was obviously pretty stunned and realized he was not a student and maybe under the influence. I just told him to leave and he did. I few minutes later he came to the door asking to come inside and that's when a couple of students escorted him out and I called the police. They arrested him and asked me if I wanted to press charges. At the time I said yes under the advice of my students but honestly now I'm not sure if that is a good idea or if I would benefit from that. Any advice?? I don't even understand what it means to press charges and what I would have to do to if I now decided to take it back. They told me I would have to go to court and everything which I don't really want to do.
Thank you in advance--any advice would be much appreciated.
