Question About How A Wrongful Death Lawsuit Is Paid Out.

Around 5 years ago my father passed away after being in the hospital for about a week. After he passed away my mother pursued legal action with the Hospital and Doctors, which now after 5 years has been settled it seems.

Somewhere around 600,000 has been awarded to my mother representing my fathers estate. This is all good but now my mother is beginning to hold this money over my sister and mine’s head. Saying she will give us this much or that much or that she will only give it to us after we have completed a series of tasks which will then deem us fit to have this money. I’m not trying to be ungrateful as I do still live with her at 26 years old, but this money would give me the ability to move out and start a life for myself on my own. I almost don’t even want the money if it means I am at her whim with her deciding if I even see a cent of it.

Basically I just couldn’t find an answer to whether my sister or myself are entitled to any of the money.

My mother is our biological mother and she was married to my father at the time of his death. We live in Florida, and at the time of his death I was 21 and my sister was 19. We are now 26 and 24 when the lawsuit was settled. If you need anymore info please ask.
