Police Officer Shot And Killed My Dog This Morning

Card image cap

Location: Arkansas I used the constitution flair because to my understanding him killing my dog could be a violation of the 4th amendment right. I could be wrong that’s just what I saw when I searched up the laws in my state. This morning around 9:30 an officer showed up for a welfare check. Someone called in a welfare check for my neighbor and gave my address. I didn’t hear the officer pull up but when the officer showed up my dog ran out of the doggy door, like always, to see who was here. We have a 4 ft chain link fenced in yard and my dog could easily clear this fence. He jumped it multiple times a day when we are at work or when someone pulled in. My dog had done this a thousand times before and was never aggressive to anyone. It didn’t matter if he was familiar with them or not, never barked at anyone, never snarled his teeth, the hair on his back never stood up when he ran up to people, this dog never even growled at anyone. The officer saw my dog run down and jump the fence and shot my dog about 5 times, he fired off about 9 times. He shot my dog in the rear and when I went outside my dog was facing the opposite direction of him. My dog was scared of guns and gunfire. Whenever I would target shoot he would run and hide in the house. Is there, if anything I can do? This cop shot my dog because he looked scary. My dog was not showing signs of aggression and he was 22 feet from him when he shot. I know because I measured and have documentation of everything. The officer shot as he was walking around his cruiser so he was about 3 feet from his driver door and my dog was nearly 8 yards away from him. I have filed a complaint. I want his job and I am also curious if it’s worth it to pursue a lawsuit. Everyone I have talked to has told me to sue. Thanks for the advice in advance.
